925 Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is an alloy consisting of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The copper is added to give the soft, pure metal the strength it needs to be used for jewellery. The copper also reduces tarnishing, making it an excellent material for body jewellery. Sterling silver is recommended for well-established earlobe piercings and short-term wear. The tarnish it commonly generates through contact with the skin and the air, ie. oxidisation, makes it unsuitable for long term body piercing wear, but sterling silver is a wonderful material for non-pierced jewellery of all kinds.
Brass
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. The proportions of each metal vary to create a range of different types of brass, each with different properties. Rich low brass, also called Tombac, contains 15% zinc and is often used for jewellery. Brass containing 75% copper and 25% zinc is a beautiful yellow colour, often used as imitation gold.
